The access cover is held on by flat head screws.
First I made the access hole and cover per the plans.
Then I taped the cover in place with duct tape.
Next, I drilled 1/8 pilot holes where the screws will go.
Then I removed the cover and dimpled the holes with an AN5 dimpling tool.
I decided at this point to attach the nut plates to a seperate piece.
I cut a piece of .025 the same size as the cover, but with the center cut out.
I drilled and dimpled the screw holes.
I cut the piece through in one spot so that I could get the part through the access hole.
I clecoes the part in place and put another set of holes (this time 3/32) in between each screw hole.
These I dimpled with a 1/8 dimple die.
This picture shows me assembling the nut plates to the seperate nut holder.
A 3/32 cleco holds the nut plates in place while I drill them for rivets.
The nut plate rivet holes where counter sunk for flat head rivets.
I used a 3/32 dimple tool and dimpled the aluminum where the nut plates attach.
I then painted the piece with self etch primer.
And the riveted the nut plates with 3/32 solid rivets.
I then riveted the part on with 1/8 flat head rivets.
THen the cover was ready to screw on with 6-32 flat head screws.
