This picture shows how straight you can make parts by bending them over a board.
When I need to do long bends I have a bevelled board that I hammer the metal over.
I go very slowly, gradually increasing the bend with a mallet.
When I start I don't even use the mallet, just my hands.
I use a lot of C clamps to hold the metal in place.
I use a normal flat board on top.
The beveled piece is an oak board I selected for it's straightness.
